A Mercury retrograde is an astrological phenomenon that happens about three times per year,during which travel,technology,and communications become far more difficult than they have any right to be. Just consider the air traffic being brought to a complete halt all over Europe due to a vulcanic ash cloud last year. Copiers refuse to work,mail gets lost,the computer crashes,not to mention misunderstandings and failed connections between people.

The purpose of Mercury retrograde is to review and revise our life and our connection with reality. Mercury has an orbit that at times gets ahead of the Sun allowing us to look into the future toward new and innovative ideas. As Mercury retrogrades we ultimately have to bring the ideas back into the present to test and evaluate to see how they fit into our life,as we test drive our ideas and re-align with reality and the natural timing of the universe.
Mercury barely reaches into Virgo,on August 2nd,when Mercury turns retrograde (Phase II). We are required to go back into the Leo issues to make some important decisions,determinations and changes. Virgo deals with health and healing,and the need to get many issues aligned for situations to feel right. Virgo also has a strong ethics associated with the sign,which is why health and healing is also a strong Virgo manifestation or theme during this Mercury retrograde. Health is on many levels not just on the physical,but also on the mental,emotional and spiritual. The key focus during the month of August,which is all about Mercury retrograde,also brings into account the spiritual blueprint of our journey that is being adjusted. Situations that have been at odds and require adjustment will be the focus of this magnetic energy,bringing in new situations and circumstances to address the issues for resolution.
